Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and with it comes the search for a way to offset that last piece of pie. However, there are plenty of places to get your trot on in the area. Here are 14 Boston-area turkey trots happening come November 22.

Gobble Til You Wobble 5k & 10k

This annual race sets itself apart from the pack with its convenience. The Gobble Til You Wobble 5k & 10k turkey trot is a virtual race, meaning you can start your run wherever and whenever you want in the month of November. Registered participants who send in their finishing times will be in the running (get it?) for various awards, and each registration comes with a medal and a bib. The organizers have also pledged to donate 15 percent of each registration to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization.

Wellesley Turkey Trot

Wellesley runners will be able to race on Thanksgiving Day without even having to leave town at this year’s Wellesley Turkey Trot. The fastest trotters will be eligible for a wide array of awards, with medals being doled out to the top three overall male and female runners as well as the top three runners in each age bracket. The event will also feature a Kids Fun Run for runners age 10 and under.

Alternative House’s Thanks 4 Giving Road Race

Join Alternative House in Lowell on Thanksgiving morning for their Thanks 4 Giving 5k and 10k races. Alternative House is an organization that provides support for domestic violence survivors and their families in the form of shelter, legal help, children’s programming, and community advocacy. Registration for the 5k race is $ 25 and the 10k is $ 30. The first 500 registered runners will receive a free shirt, and everyone who finishes the race will receive a free pie to help jump-start their Thanksgiving celebrations.

26th Annual Dreamcatcher Classic

This Weymouth tradition is celebrating its 26th year this Thanksgiving, making it one of the longest-standing turkey trots in the area. The Dreamcatcher Classic includes a two-mile race and five-mile race, both of which leave from Weymouth High School at 7:30 a.m. Proceeds from the race will go to Weymouth Public Schools’ athletic programs as well as a scholarship program for Weymouth High School graduates.

Feaster Five Thanksgiving Day Road Race

This Merrimack Valley road race has been trotting along every year since 1988. It now boasts an average of 10,000 runners each year, making it one of the largest Thanksgiving day races in New England. The Feaster Five road race features a pre-race expo with several local vendors, and the first 9,000 registrants receive a free shirt. A fresh apple pie will also be waiting for you at the finish line to give you that extra boost of motivation.

Franklin Park Turkey Trot

The Franklin Park Turkey Trot is the largest Thanksgiving Day race in the city of Boston. Since its inaugural race in 2013, the Franklin Park Turkey Trot has consistently grown each year, and now attracts more than 1,400 runners. All proceeds go to the Franklin Park Coalition, which is responsible for restoring and maintaining the park year-round. Runners of all ages and paces are encouraged to participate, and the race is even open to strollers and leashed dogs so the whole family can join in on the fun.

Gobble Gobble Gobble

Gobble Gobble Gobble is returning to Somerville for the 22nd time this year, courtesy of Somerville Road Runners. This 4-mile race is open to runners and joggers of all ages, and all proceeds benefit Project Soup and the Somerville Track PAC. Gobble Gobble Gobble tends to fill up quickly, so be sure to secure your spot before they’re all gone.

Boston Volvo Thanksgiving Day 5k

This Allston 5k is a great way to start off Thanksgiving Day right, while contributing to a worthy cause. The Boston Volvo Thanksgiving Day 5k is presented by Boston Volvo Village and raises money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society each year. Free t-shirts are handed out to the first 700 registrants and prizes are awarded to the top run finishes and fundraisers.

Turkey Trot in Artesani Park 

Ever wanted to run a race along the Charles River? Don’t want to fight the crowds at a race on Thanksgiving morning? If either is true for you, then you won’t want to miss the annual Turkey Trot Run in Artesani Park, which includes a 3.1-mile race and a 5.25-mile race filled with beautiful autumn foliage and scenic river views. The event is organized by Boston Road Runners and also features a canned food drive so that everyone in the Boston community is well fed this Thanksgiving.

Wild Turkey 5-Mile

Touted as one of the largest races on the North Shore, this five mile race in Salem will have you warmed up just in time to crash on the couch for football and turkey. First 1,700 participants registered get a Brooks tech long-sleeve shirt.

Greater Newburyport Wild Turkey Trot

Head to Mill Pond Recreation Area in West Newbury for a 3.1-mile cross country race before the big meal—you might just see a wild turkey or two on your journey. Take advantage of two free course preview runs if you pre-register.

Marathon Sports Hingham Turkey Trot

South Shore dwellers, come out for the biggest Thanksgiving Day race in your neck of the woods. All race proceeds from this 5k will go to Hingham High School cross country/track boosters. The top three male and female finishers in each age group will be awarded.

Braintree Thanksgiving Day 5k Race/Walk

Braintree High School is hosting a race/walk on Thanksgiving. To beat the crowds, pick up your bib and t-shirt the day before. The first 500 people registered will get a free t-shirt.

Essex Turkey Trot Road Race

If you want to get your trot on a little earlier than Thanksgiving Day, come out to Essex for this 5k and fun walk. The race is sanctioned by U.S. Track and Field and a t-shirt is guaranteed to participants who pre-register.
