Dragging yourself to the doctors’ office can be quite the ordeal. Finding not only the time, but the funds, can be a real nightmare—even in Boston, where the doctors are plentiful and the healthcare is second to none. To make taking care of your health a little more convenient and affordable, local CVS Pharmacy stores around the city are kicking off their annual Project Health campaign, which starts November 1. The program will offer a range of free health screening options, including sessions for blood pressure, body mass index, glucose, and total cholesterol.

The campaign is part of the company’s commitment to improving the access of affordable healthcare for all Americans. A total of 24 Project Health events will take place locally November 1-December 16. These events, where patients will be able to participate in health screenings without an appointment, will take place mostly on Thursdays through Sundays, from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. at participating stores. Uninsured and underinsured Americans will be able to take advantage of these events to detect risk for chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

Boston is only one of eleven markets in the country to offer something like this, and since the program was established in 2006, Project Health has delivered free health care services to more than 930,000 people across the country.

“Project Health is a part of CVS Health’s commitment to improving access to quality care by identifying health concerns and risk factors for participants who may not have otherwise sought preventative care,” Troyen Brennan, chief medical officer at CVS Health, said in a press release. “Chronic conditions, which can often be life-threatening, can be treated very effectively when identified early at screenings such as Project Health, and can help to improve a patient’s health and well-being.”

After patients are screened at select CVS stores, they will have access to on-site consultations with bilingual nurse practitioners or physician assistants who will be able to refer patients who require additional medical care and follow-up to no-cost or low-cost facilities.

Free, November 1-December 16, CVS Health, participating locations, to find an event at a store near you: cvs.com.
